A Permaculture Programme for Children – A Special Needs Connection
About Lesson

Welcome to our programme!

I am a certified permaculture designer and educator and I have developed this curriculum to act as a holistic therapy tool for disabled youth. This was inspired by my son who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 3, and neuro- developmental disabilities at the age of 6. What I discovered by living a permaculture lifestyle is how well my son has responded. Our lifestyle has enabled him to continue therapy through activities outside of his medical-based interventions. Pictured: He has raised four therapy chickens this year which his medical practitioners use and encourage also.

This programme is designed for you and your child to work at your own pace and does not replace your existing therapy programmes. The activities may be used by your therapists or they may be carry-over “work” that you can perform within your family to help your child to reach their goals. It may be used by community groups, or school interventionists. Each of the activities will outline which skills are being practiced and developed to help caregivers understand the benefits during utilisation. Invite friends and siblings to join in, and create an environment of inclusiveness and fun for all involved.
